Hi,
can I upgrade from BTS 2004 to BTS 2009 directly?
Or should I do the following instead:
First upgrade from BTS 2004 to BTS 2006 R2
then from BTS 2006 R2 to BTS 2009?

Thanks in advance for your help in this matter!

Hi mj,

Direct upgrading from BizTalk 2004 to BizTalk 2009 isn't supported. Here is
the note in BizTalk Server 2009 Installation and Upgrade Guides:

Note
While upgrading from BizTalk Server 2004 is not supported, you can
accomplish this by upgrading to either BizTalk Server 2006 or R2 first, and
then upgrading to BizTalk Server 2009.

Furthermore, performing a server migration may be another choice for you.
Either way, I'd like to suggest you try to get some assistance from our
BizTalk support group by creating a service ticket to ensure the upgrading
scenario will run smoothly and will not affect your existing BizTalk
applications.

Get notification to my posts through email? Please refer to

MSDN Managed Newsgroup support offering is for non-urgent issues where an
initial response from the community or a Microsoft Support Engineer within
2 business day is acceptable. Please note that each follow up response may
take approximately 2 business days as the support professional working with
you may need further investigation to reach the most efficient resolution.
The offering is not appropriate for situations that require urgent,
real-time or phone-based interactions. Issues of this nature are best
handled working with a dedicated Microsoft Support Engineer by contacting
Microsoft Customer Support Services (CSS) at
